Systems in this building

Only the sections for systems marked «Yes» are asked.

  • Is the system monitored by a supervising station?
  • Is there a public emergency alarm reporting system?
  • Is there a mass notification system (MNS)?
  • Is there an emergency communications system (voice / EVAC / two-way)?
  • Are there remote annunciators?
  • Are there remote power panels?

What the record covers

The same items as the NFPA 72 record of inspection and testing (Figure 7.8.2(g) and its supplements), in our words:

Start, end and frequency
when the visit began and ended, which frequency it covers, and how many supplement pages are attached
Property
building, owner or representative and how to reach them, the authority having jurisdiction
Testing and monitoring
the testing company; the supervising station, account number, phone lines, means of transmission and where alarms are retransmitted
Documentation
where the record documents and site-specific software are kept on site
System
control unit make, model and firmware, primary and secondary power, battery type and calculated capacity
Notifications
who was told before testing started and after it ended — person and time for each
Test results
control unit and associated equipment, secondary power, supervising-station and public-reporting signals received, and each initiating device, notification appliance and interface component
Certification
the edition the system was tested to, the inspector’s name, organization, title, phone and qualifications, signature and date
Not corrected
impairments and deficiencies still open when the visit ended, and the owner’s acknowledgment
Supplements
mass notification and emergency communications systems, when the building has them

Questions

Can I just print a blank form?

Yes. The blank PDFs above have every item of the 2019 or 2022 record in our own words, with tick boxes and lines to write on, and 92 device rows. The Excel sheet keeps the device list with a Pass / Fail / Not tested drop-down and totals. Both are free, with no account and no watermark on the blank.

Do I have to use the NFPA form itself?

No. NFPA 72 (7.6.6 in the 2022 edition) lets the record be kept on the NFPA forms or on an alternative record that includes all the applicable information those forms show, and the annex (A.7.8.2(2)) calls the forms samples that are not meant to dictate a format. This form asks for that information in its own words and order. Your authority having jurisdiction decides what it accepts.

What is different between the 2019 and 2022 editions?

Very little on the record itself. The main form and the device supplements ask for the same items in both. The mass-notification supplement names the stored-energy supply differently (ESS in 2019, SEPSS in 2022), and the qualifications line points to a different clause (10.5.3 in 2019, 10.6.3 in 2022). Pick the edition your jurisdiction has adopted.

How long do the records have to be kept?

NFPA 72 (14.6.2.1) asks for inspection and testing records to be kept until the next test and for one year after it. Your state, building code or AHJ may ask for longer; the longer rule wins.

Is anything I type sent to Strobeline?

No. The form keeps your entries in this browser so a reload does not lose them, and the PDF is made on your device. We only count that a PDF was made, never what is in it.

Why does the PDF say SAMPLE across the pages?

Because nothing was stored, there is no record anyone can check it against later. In the Strobeline app, each signed record is kept unchanged and the PDF carries an address where the stored record can be compared.

Doing this every week?

Strobeline is the same record on a phone: one tap per device, works with no signal, Texas red and yellow label deadlines counted for you, and the office sends the owner a link with the PDF. Free for 3 buildings. Pricing
